Analysis on Animation Production Studios – Movies

This post will be similar to the last one but focusing on the anime movies and their studios instead. This list includes all the movies that are mentioned at least once in any of the list. I have also worked out a way to paste table onto the blog which looks much nicer than the pasted picture I used before. I will try to update the previous posts also. Firstly, here is the summary of each studio and how many titles it animated in the list

Rank Animation studio Title count
1 Madhouse Studios 7
2 Studio Ghibli 4
3 Studio 4C 3
3 BONES 3
5 Studio Khara 2
5 Toei Animation 2
5 Comix Wave Inc. 2
5 Production I.G 2
9 Shochiku Film 1
9 SHAFT 1
9 ufotable 1
9 Gonzo 1
9 Square Enix 1
9 TMS Entertainment 1
9 AIC 1
9 Imagica 1

Quick comments based on this:

1). Madhouse has the most title yet again

2). Notable Studios (i.e. have more than 1 title in the list) that did not make the series list but are in this list are Studio Ghibli (they only make movies anyway), Studio Khara (New studio formed by Anno Hideaki, director of E’vangelion, in 2006) and Comix Wave Inc.

Before any other comments, let’s look at what titles each studios are responsible for

3). Tons of quality movies produced by Madhouse. It seems to be the go-to studio for the likes of Kon Satoshi and Hosoda Mamoru, two of the top anime movie directors around in my opinion.

4). Out of all Ghibli films released last decade, only Tale of Earthsea does not make it onto the list. I still have not finished the film but consensus-wise, this is not too much of a surprise I guess

5). To further the point above, Studio Khara was found by Anno and seems to have taken with it the Evangelion material from GAINAX (which does not appear on this list at all). Its only main works so far are the two new Eva movies, both of which make it onto the list!

6). In websites like ANN and wikipedia, it lists Comix Wave Inc. as a production company for Shinkai Makoto work, even for Voices of the DIstant Star (which i always thought he did all by himself). How does the deal work for that?

7). Not many ‘franchise’ movies make it onto the list, the only few being One Pieve: Omatsuri… and Lupin: First Contact. The lack of recognition this type of movies is presumably the scarcity of licence and access and in most cases the requirement to have to know the original sources before watching which must have turned a lot of people off. I mean, there are Doraemon and Case Closed movies released pretty much every year but not even one makes it on here!

8). What is the animation production studio for Appleseed? I can’t seem to find it anywhere at all.

That’s it for now. Any comment is welcomed as always:)
